I enjoyed it from the beginning and felt I was supported all the way through. Nothing from my perspective needs to be improved. It all worked smoothly, and I understood what I needed to do in certain situations and when to contact my brand ambassador if I was experiencing any issues. Overall it is a great way to meet people and provide a bit of support away from home as well as some structure to your day.

Placement Year Sport Science Female Student, 2021-2022

It can be useful for anyone and I’m so glad I got to benefit from it.

It provided a safe and supportive environment where myself and my peers could talk about our day and share our emotions whilst feeling heard and accepted and being able to view or tackle our situation with someone’s else’s perspective. I have a better awareness of what I can do maintain a better mental-wellbeing and learning to stay calmer in situations that I cannot control. At times when I felt isolated on my placement abroad, I got to connect with my university peers which was really nice.

Third Year Sport Science Female Student, 2021-2022

I would recommend the course because it helps you find friends and release negative emotions.

Third Year Psychology Female Student, 2021-2022

I learned a lot about not only coping with myself but also learned that I am not the only one that feels certain ways. It really helped to exchange ideas and thoughts with like-minded people, that have the same problems. It created a life-net for me and I wish that for everyone who struggles sometimes.

Third Year Biosciences Female Student, 2021-2022

It has made me more understanding and sympathetic to those suffering with mental health conditions, but more importantly that wellbeing and mindfulness is best used as prevention and not a cure. It's a fantastic way to heal yourself and explore yourself. Even if you don't feel you need it, you will [be] learning something positive from it, even if that thing is understanding and sympathising with other people's perception of the same life and university experience. I liked that I was able to help people and a the same time, feel understood and supported by those in the group too.

Third Year Psychology Male Student, 2021-2022

I would and have recommended #Me to others. I co-facilitated a group and by the end we all became good friends and have made plans to meet up over summer. During the final sessions, because the weather was great, we went outside and had a picnic after our meetings. #Me gave myself and others the chance to express the overwhelming feelings that are felt at university to a group of people who understand how it feels in a safe environment.

Third Year Physics and Maths Female Student, 2021-2022

I gained a new friend during this process at a time where I felt low.

Second Year Biosciences Female Student, 2021-2022

Hashtag Me is a unique experience for any university student. It encourages talking deep aspects of life with new people. I never thought I’d enjoy or benefit so much from peer group support but I really enjoyed managing meetings with my co-facilitator and helping attendees settle at NTU and got a lot from it myself too.

Second Year School of Social Sciences Male Student, 2021-2022

There is no pressure to share, and being a quiet observer with trouble expressing or even acknowledging emotions is sufficient to feel the impact of #Me.

Second Year Engineering Female Student, 2021-2022

It’s really helpful in understanding your mental health.

This idea of #ME is a good one. These meetings give us students a good chance to build our resilience. #ME should continue in future and expand :)

Second Year Engineering Male Student, 2021-2022

I had a great experience doing #me. I really enjoyed it and took so many skills away from it that will help myself and others in the future. I will definitely sign-up next year.

Second Year Engineering Male Student, 2021-2022

I think it would be great and so beneficial if it could be rolled out to other schools in the uni!

Second Year Psychology Female Student, 2021-2022

I really enjoyed taking part in the course and I will definitely try to do it again next year!

Second Year Biosciences Female Student, 2021-2022

It's so important that students learn and reflect about the different ways they can improve, especially early on during adulthood/university so we can cope better with any issues. There's really not any courses like this, that I've come across anyway, that focuses on all those different topics and I would absolutely love to be involved again.

Second Year Psychology Female Student, 2021-2022

It was useful and could help others as well, especially for building confidence and strength.

Second Year Chemistry and Forensics Female Student, 2021-2022

I would recommend the #Me course because it allows people to feel less alone in their thoughts and emotions allowing them to speak more freely without fear of judgement leading to a healthier relationship with themselves.

Second Year Chemistry and Forensics Male Student, 2021-2022

It was very helpful to meet other students in a similar situation to me.

First Year Computing Female Student, 2021-2022

#ME allows students to understand they are not the only ones going through their issues and this course has added experience to my learning as a trainee counsellor.

First Year Psychology Male Student, 2021-2022

It was and still is really helpful to me!

First Year Biosciences Female Student, 2021-2022

Very useful to get to know yourself as it helps you to better understand the way that you think and build healthy coping mechanisms for when things get tough. At first I was lost but after engaging with this course, I felt like I could finally see everything I hadn't noticed before within myself, which then helped me to develop healthier coping mechanisms. It also granted me a place to write down all of my thoughts in a safe space that you can just keep to yourself, finally getting rid of some of that mental pressure. I feel I will use everything at some stage when I need it as I found [it] all very helpful.

First Year Forensic Science Male Student, 2021-2022

I liked sharing similar experiences with people, especially as a POC [person of colour] it’s great to see representation when it comes to discussing mental health. Would love to see more! So this program should definitely continue to encourage and allow people to connect and better themselves.

First Year Biosciences Female Student, 2021-2022

You get to meet like minded students, see similarities you have with each other, get to know one another better and learn about different topics.

First Year Biosciences Female Student, 2021-2022

I would recommend it because it's a great wellbeing course that built my resilience and allowed me to meet new people.

First Year Engineering Male Student, 2021-2022

I would recommend the #Me course because I learned so much about myself while undertaking this course. I was able to talk freely about things I never talk about, without fear of being judged or laughed at. It was a wonderful experience for me that helped me start a journey to better myself, to be more confident in my decisions and to focus on the things which matter and let go of those I cannot control. I feel like I understand myself more now and better handle situations around me. I believe the course covered all of the topics which were relevant to me and even more. I think my mental health and wellbeing are in a good place now.

First Year Engineering Female Student, 2021-2022

It is a safe place to talk about anything and I looked forward to the meetings.

First Year Biosciences Female Student, 2021-2022

When this course was recommended to me in the first place I had my doubts about how helpful it would be, however, it’s a friendly and understanding environment where you can get reassurance from other people who have similar struggle[s] that let you know you’re not alone and with whom you can get better each week.

First Year Chemistry and Forensics Female Student, 2021-2022

I would recommend this because it opens up dialogue with your peers about emotions that you think other people may not understand.

Foundation Year Engineering Female Student, 2021-2022

I think #Me could help many students who have issues/don't believe in themselves and especially autistic students like me but also quieter students and helping them to open up in a safe space. The contact each week meant we could all gain each others trust.

Foundation Year Engineering Female Student, 2021-2022

The course was helpful in starting to reflect more. It was a good community of people and I have grown as a person in the time I have partook in the course. I’m so grateful and encourage other students to try it too!

Second Year Biosciences Male Student, 2020-2021

At first I wasn't really keen on attending as I didn’t know what to expect but after week one I looked forward to every meeting as it makes you feel you're not alone and others might be able to give you advice. And especially during Covid it was nice having a bit of structure at least in the day.

Second Year Biosciences Female Student, 2020-2021

This course helped me to better understand my mental health and that I am not alone. I feel equipped to face difficult situations and now realise how resilient I actually am. I thoroughly enjoyed this process.

Second Year Computing Male Student, 2020-2021

It's been really helpful and I've looked forward to it every week. You can meet some absolutely lovely people who you wouldn’t otherwise get to know! It genuinely helped me a lot build my mental strength. I thought the logbook was also very well designed.

Second Year Sport Science Female Student, 2020-2021

It added structure to my week, allowed me to meet some friendly people and take a break from uni work. It was a good way to know you were not alone and to have the support without feeling any pressure to speak.

Third Year Physics and Maths Male Student, 2020-2021

It was a good opportunity to meet people in a similar situation to you and as the weeks went on I always had people to chat to about how I was doing. This is sometimes easier with people you don't know so well. The coping mechanisms and the breathings techniques shared were amazing and very helpful. I’m definitely glad I took part in this course.

Fourth Year Biosciences Female Student, 2020-2021

The course helps to develop mental and emotional well-being. It really was a perfectly designed course to overcome shyness and anxiety. It helped me to build my self-confidence, be more resilient and the logbook is awesome.

Masters Biosciences Male Student, 2020-2021

This course is perfectly designed and the logbook is extremely useful. There is honestly nothing to improve! This experience improves your mental-health and helps you to think differently about your own well-being and what you can do to maintain it. I like how the workshops were very interactive and gave us as facilitators a break from delivering the content. They were also well placed and well timed during the #Me course. I feel that I have gained confidence in delivering group sessions and articulating myself well as a result of facilitating the #Me course and am just sad I won’t be able to do it again!

Masters School of Social Sciences Male Student, 2020-2021

I really liked the book in particular and loved doing the morning suggestions. It was really helpful to interact with other people once in a while and be part of this community. It made be more organised and gives you new ways to see things and be more appreciative of what’s around you. I’m glad I took part.

Masters Chemistry and Forensics Female Student, 2020-2021

#Me was good to get a helping hand for mental health and becoming more resilient. I now have a new appreciation of reaching out to others going through what I am going through. The meetings were very helpful and creates the opportunity to socialize. The workshops were well packaged and presented. Overall, we had a great opportunity to throw light on important issues.

Masters Computing Male Student, 2020-2021

It was a well-structured course, easy to engage with and provided helpful tips and advice. Building a supportive environment each week meant we could comfortably share and contribute. The topics for the live workshops were good. It worked well having a separate PGR group both due to similar experiences but also helping to avoid any potential conflicts for PGRs who teach UGs. I really enjoyed seeing the environment the group created for themselves in the meeting space. They were supportive, positive, respectful and committed and it was a joy to watch them grow as a team over the 12 weeks. The facilitator guide and training were really helpful, as was my brand ambassador [name removed].

PhD Biosciences Female Student, 2020-2021

This course gave me a chance to share my thoughts as well listen to others and this has improved my cultural intelligence. It's been a safe space to talk and learn about how to cope better with tough times without judging or stereotypes. The meetings on resilience and the stress bucket were most useful for me.

Second Year Female Biosciences Student, 2019-2020

A highlight of being a facilitator was being able to help people in similar situations to myself, I was able to connect with someone that was on a similar course to me and was able to help them with stress related issues caused by the course. I think being able to talk to people about issues they were having was most useful for the other students. I think it could have a genuinely positive impact on the lives of others.

Second Year Male Biosciences Student, 2019-2020

I was grateful to make friends with people who can actually relate. And I think the coping strategy cards were all good recommendations, things you wouldn't always consider.

Second Year Female Biosciences student, 2019-2020

I really enjoyed being able to see the difference the sessions had on those who attended. Having tasks in the logbook each week, especially ones like the stress bucket, helped to focus on areas we struggle. And then having different questions about your day meant there was a focus and it helped to write about the day as without them, it would be difficult to process. I think it has been a really rewarding experience and I would recommend it to students as either to be a facilitator or an attendee.

Second Year Female Psychology Student, 2019-2020

The course is effective and welcoming and a highlight of facilitating was being able to help someone else.

Second Year Female Sport Science Student, 2019-2020

I would recommend joining the #Me course because it enables you to make friends with people from diverse backgrounds, with different stories, cultures, mentalities, and courses across the university. It offers a welcoming environment where you can exchange advice and connect with a variety of individuals.

First Year Chemistry and Forensics Male Student, 2020-2021

Even if you aren’t someone with bad mental health this can be helpful to acknowledge and identify when issues may happen in the future. For someone who is experiencing difficulty during it, it can be helpful to have a group to talk to who is going through a similar thing so no one judges each other. I thought it was very helpful without being invasive, although of course in person meetings would be a lot more helpful especially for building relationships with others in your group which has been a bit harder online. The logbook content was extremely useful and is a useful tool we can take away and revisit in the future.

The cards provided a good variety of things to do, plenty of job to draw the mind away from the world. I really liked them and still continue doing the cards now.
